Queensland can’t afford to lose more nurses and midwives.
Queensland Health nurses and midwives are taking action to keep you safe.
Every day, more than 300 nursing and midwifery shifts go unfilled in Queensland.
Who will staff the LNP government’s new $10 billion health facilities if nurses and midwives keep burning out and walking away?
Nurses and midwives are taking Protected Industrial Action to demand fair pay, safe conditions, and respect.
You can help. Demand urgent action from your local MP and Health Minister Tim Nicholls.

What’s going on?
We’re facing critical workforce shortages. Queensland’s nurses and midwives are holding our health system together through sheer heart, skill, and determination. But we’re at breaking point.
The Queensland LNP promised to maintain nation-leading wages and conditions.
Instead, their latest pay offer would leave 67% of Queensland’s nurses and midwives worse off than their Victorian colleagues – and hundreds facing actual pay cuts.
And it gets worse. The government wants to strip back hard-fought conditions and entitlements, leaving nurses and midwives with fewer rights and protections.
Is it any wonder we’re leaving?
With a growing and aging population, and increasing demand on our health system, Queensland can’t afford to fall behind.
Better pay and safe conditions aren’t just fair – they’re a necessity.
What does this mean?
Right now in Queensland, over 300 nursing and midwifery shifts go unfilled every single day.
That means understaffed hospitals and overstretched staff.
And it could get worse – 46% of Queensland’s nurses and midwives are considering leaving the profession. They need fair pay and safe working conditions to stay.
This isn’t a strike. No one is walking off the job. Protected Industrial Action is safe and targeted. While there may be some inconvenience, patient and public safety will never be at risk.
Queensland can’t afford to lose more nurses and midwives. We have to act now – starting with fair pay and conditions. It’s how we keep Queenslanders safe.
