Queensland can’t afford to lose more nurses and midwives.
Already, over 300 nursing and midwifery shifts go unfilled every day in Queensland. Now, nearly half of Queensland’s nurses and midwives are considering leaving in the next year.
Fewer nurses and midwives means more patients die* – it’s that serious. You can help. Demand urgent action from your local MP and Health Minister Tim Nicholls.

What’s going on?
We’re facing critical workforce shortages. Queensland’s nurses and midwives are burning out and walking away.
The Queensland LNP promised to maintain nation-leading wages and conditions.
Instead, their latest pay offer would leave 67% of Queensland’s nurses and midwives worse off than their Victorian colleagues.
Is it any wonder they’re leaving?
With a growing and aging population, and increasing demand on our health system, Queensland can’t afford to fall behind. Better pay isn’t just fair – it’s a necessity.
*A team of independent researchers from the University of Pennsylvania’s Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research, and the Queensland University of Technology, were commissioned to evaluate the impact of staffing policies in Queensland Health. They found that “increased nurse staffing was associated with improvements in outcomes for patients and nurses”, including “9% lower odds of dying in the hospital.
What this means
Right now in Queensland, over 300 nursing and midwifery shifts go unfilled every single day.
That means understaffed hospitals, longer wait times, and overstretched staff who can’t deliver the quality care Queenslanders deserve.
And it could get worse.
46% of Queensland’s nurses and midwives are considering leaving the profession.
Queensland can’t afford to lose more nurses and midwives. We have to act now – starting with fair pay and conditions.
Better pay isn’t just fair – it’s how we keep Queenslanders safe.
